Family Economic Empowerment
Family Economic Empowerment Task Force brings together family service agencies, emergency housing shelters, nonprofit housing developers and community advocates to work for affordable housing and jobs for Bridgeport residents.
Co-chairs are community leaders Marta Calderon and Margie Powell
2010 - 2011 Action Agenda:
Even in these difficult economic times, the City of Bridgeport has viable options to increase its base of affordable housing.
- BCAC will continue its efforts to address affordable housing.
- BCAC will engage in a more comprehensive look at job training and placement.
- The Task Force will research state and federal funding coming to Bridgeport for job training, the track record of job training programs in terms of job placement and retention, and best practices.
Impact: Increasing affordable housing options will help create stable housing for low-income children and their parents, resulting in better physical and mental health, behavior and school performance. Jobs that pay a decent wage are essential to help parents move their families out of poverty.
